Focus Over Forty

Starting to have difficulty reading? If so, and you're aged over 45, then you're probably experiencing presbyopia. This is not a disease, but is caused by the natural ageing process of your eyes. It affects nearly everyone as they get older and restricts their ability to focus easily on close objects. The result is blurred vision or tired eyes, especially when reading in poor light.

Fortunately, we're able to help you deal with this condition. For example, if you have never needed vision correction before, you may now just require reading glasses for close work. However, if you already wear spectacles, then you have several choices. You may decide to have different glasses for distance and reading, although this can be inconvenient. Or you may choose a pair which performs both functions, such as bifocal or varifocal spectacles.

Varifocal (also known as progressive) lenses are the modern solution.

Good Eyesight- A child's passport to the future

The new term is here and many mum's are breathing a sigh of relief! However how many remembered the all important eye test for their child?

A child's eyesight can affect several aspects of their life including interaction, concentration and reading. An astounding 80% of a child's learning is visual which means that children with poorer eyesight may not be able to develop to their full potential!

A child's vision can change quickly so regular examinations are important from the age of 3! The NHS recommends annual eye tests for children. The BIG Optician stocks a wide range of frames with cool, fashionable designs so children can feel comfortable wearing them.

With a warm, welcoming and expert team The BIG Optician is ideal for your little munchkins eye tests!

Ray-Ban : Isle of Wight Festival 2012

Celebrities were out in force at this year's Isle of Wight Festival and as usual the majority were wearing their ubiquitous Ray-Bans. Ray-Ban wearing celebs such as KelisProfessor Green and Katy B all made a bee-line for the Ray-Ban VIP area which this year included a vintage pub-themed beer garden. We're told that Tinie Tempah and Suggs were getting along famously. Pickled egg anyone...?

Madge on Graham Norton

Was anyone else as speechless as me at how incredibly youthful Madonna looked on The Graham Norton Show last week? On the show promoting her new movie, 'W.E.', (which, incidentally, stars local lass Andrea Riseborough as Wallace Simpson), Madge looked ever so serene with not a single line crinkling that perfect brow. Funny that!

Did you catch her reference to her beloved Miu Miu sunglasses that she's been wearing recently at all her red-carpet events: 'Miuccia will love these'  Madonna said, when Graham gave her a tiny pair of replica red Miu Miu sunglasses that had been lovingly made for her by two Italian fans.  Madge had to spoil it by saying 'They're not quite the right shape though'.

Some people are never happy!  Check out the actual Miu Miu sunglasses at The Big Optician, the only stockiest of Miu Miu eyewear in the North East.'
